Gray Treefrog

Hyla versicolor

Description:

A green frog with some orange or dark-yellow markings on its hind legs and feet

Habitat:

On the windows and wall in our covered porch at night after a gentle but steady rain. Our porch faces a lake and is within a seven mile radius of wetlands, woodlands, farmlands and prairie fields.

Notes:

We used to keep the porch light on at night throughout summer until I started seeing large dragonflies and moths fluttering too close to the light bulbs and feared for their safety. This was taken back when we kept the lights on so we had a lot of spiders, moths and bugs trapped in spider webs for the frogs and toads to dine on. This was a particularly good night for amphibians as we had a wood frog, this guy, an american toad and another itty-bitty toad (smaller than a fingernail) that came to dine. Dinner was served between 9:30 and 10:30 p.m..

AshleyT-Thank you so much! Got it. :-) I've seen Gray Treefrogs before but had never seen the orange or yellow markings on them before. perhaps its only seen during their breeding season or in males or something...?

I'm not sure why the link comes up as "none" but it is still there!

Very nice pictures showing the yellow on the insides of the legs!
