Haliaeetus leucocephalus
So glad this magnificent bird of prey is making a successful comeback. Removed from the endangered species list in 2007, the Bald Eagle sighting is not so uncommon nowadays. It wasn't so long ago that you seldom knew anyone who had ever seen one in the wild. Interestingly, the "Bald" eagle was named such because of the older definition of "bald" meaning "white headed."
This Bald Eagle was seen high in the trees on the bank of Mahoning Creek in Dayton, PA.
Listen to the Bald Eagle call at the Birdwatchers Digest link. See also my images of Bald Eagle--Immature, which was seen with this one.

Rachel, isn't that how it usually goes? I went "armed" with my camera because my nephew said he saw it the week before. He isn't a birder so I thought he probably just saw a hawk but sure enough he was right!
Bailey, yes, we were very excited. It was a special day.
Amazingly beautiful! I've seen two in the wild in my lifetime, each time my camera was left at home!!!:/
WOW!!! I've never seen one before in the wild, but I could just imagine the feeling you would have after seeing one! :)
Did now! Thanks!
I agree, James. Did you see the Juvenile that was hunting with this one? http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/169...
Love the feeling I get when I spot a bald Eagle...especially where you don't expect to see one.
Such a lovely & Majestic Bird!
