European Starling

Description:

I could not resist taking this starling's picture. It is totally enjoying a splash in the water and was all wet. It is also called the common starling. The European Starling is six inches long, has a pointed bill that is yellow most of the year and dark during the fall. Covered in black feathers, it has white spots on its head and body in the fall and shimmering green and purple feathers in the spring. It also has dark pointed wings and a short tail.

Habitat:

Found in open fields and trees. This particular starling was spotted in a local zoo in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
