Aeshna palmata
Large dragonfly similar to many other darners. Only way to separate this species is by the shape of the claspers at the tip of the abdomen on a male specimen.
Spotted this one at the outflow behind the dam for Quail Lake. Thick cattails, reeds, and other riparian vegetation in the immediate vicinity.
This species is generally common just above the high plains and at higher elevations along the Front Range.
