Description:

Large dragonfly similar to many other darners. Only way to separate this species is by the shape of the claspers at the tip of the abdomen on a male specimen.

Habitat:

Spotted this one at the outflow behind the dam for Quail Lake. Thick cattails, reeds, and other riparian vegetation in the immediate vicinity.

Notes:

This species is generally common just above the high plains and at higher elevations along the Front Range.
