African Red-eyed Bulbul

Pycnonotus nigricans

Description:

bold medium sized (20 cm) songbird readily identified by the yellow vent plus red eye ring

Habitat:

Kalahari scrub (semi-desert)

Notes:

about 20 of these beautiful birds descended on the bush camp when the students were away for the day. Previously I had been used to seeing these Bulbuls in 2's or 3's. The birds were attracted by some abandoned fruit in the camp.
