Red ruffed lemur

Varecia rubra

Notes:

The Duke Lemur Center has recorded about twelve different calls. The red ruffed lemur and Black-and-White Ruffed Lemur understand each other's calls, despite living in different parts of Madagascar. Scent marking is also an important means of communication. Pictures taken at Artis, zoo of Amsterdam.

Thank you Ca and Ava! It was a lot of fun doing this photoshoot. As you can see in picture number six, one of them came straight at me and sat on top of me. The zookeeper wasn't amused, as if I could do something about it. I was not planning on touching the Lemur, I saw him in a fight with one of the others and those teeth were very sharp. As long as he was interested in my camera I had no problem with it. Then the zookeeper chased it away and gave me a lecture. :(
