Chinese Mantid Ootheca (egg case)

Tenodera aridifolia sinensis

Description:

Stiff, foam-like structure, tan coloration. Lightweight. Egg case.

Habitat:

Found on one of the Rose-of-Sharon plants in the spring but photographed later (followed by mantis nymphs found in the garden).

Notes:

Nymphs have already hatched out. Introduced species that is widely distributed in North America due to commercial availability for "pest control".
