queen butterfly

Danaus gilippus

Description:

A monarch relative that is both smaller and darker in coloring - it's range is further south

Notes:

My first ever spotting of one of these as in San Diego. The butterfly landed on a cassius flower aand was attacked by a crab spider. I was 7. Didn't know whether to be angry, or excited
