Arctiinae or Aganainae
I am pretty sure that this kind of hairy caterpillar belongs to the Tiger Moth group and is a larva of either of the subfamilies Arctiinae or Aganainae.
Spotted on an unidentified tree in our backyard.

Thank you, Sukanya. The photo, from which these pictures were cropped, was intended to be a spotting of some Barklice which appeared to be damaging the tree. These creatures are extremely small and I felt that the quality of the photo was not good enough to be posted on Project Noah. However, a few days ago, I was reviewing some old pictures and only then (8 years after the event) did I see the caterpillar. I had to sharpen the original photo rather excessively to make the caterpillar a little more visible. I have now posted a spotting of the Barklice - https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/20........ as originally intended. So you were absolutely right. The caterpillar does blend rather well with the background.
It seems well camouflaged...well spotted.
