Elegant Spiny Ant

Polyrhachis ammon

Description:

see internet reference

Habitat:

Common in urban areas. This specimen was on the dunes close to intertidal flats among pig-face 'Carpobrotus glaucescens'

Notes:

I was excited to get this. My rather cheap digital bridging camera Fuji Finepix S5800 is often too slow on autofocus to get anything as quick as an ant. Also known as Golden-tailed Spiny Ant and Spiny Ant. This is a large family and there is a chance I have incorrectly identified the species
