Monochamus scutellatus
Just over an inch long, black with white spots and the antennae have black and white stripes. This fellow came along under our picnic table. Lots of decaying pines in this provincial park!
Ponderosa Pine, dry bunchgrass area of southern BC along the Kettle River between Rock Creek and Westbridge, BC
Thanks again! I think deciding on the race might be impossible for me. In fact, my individual looks more like the photos of Whitespotted Sawyer and I am not sure if range is enough to decide on race here. Great to have your help and let me know if you learn anything more that I haven't found.
There is no Monochamus oregonensis, but a Monochamus scutellatus oregonensis, so a subspecies of Monochamus scutellatus. Checking on my iPhone is tricky, so I do not teally know how to distinguish the subspecies Oregonensis from Scutellatus.
Thanks for the ID bayucca! it's a perfect match. What about the possibility of Oregon Fir Sawyer, that looks the same as the Whitespotted Sawyer? It mentions that it is along the Pacific coast of both BC and the States and it also feeds on Pines.
Cerambycidae, Lamiinae, Monochamini, should be Monochamus scutellatus. Please, verify!
