Straight-Toothed Sallow Moth

Eupsilia Vinulenta

Description:

Family: Noctuidae, Subfamily: Noctuinae, Tribe: Xylenini. A common thick-bodied and hairy sallow moth. TL -20 mm. WS 2.0 - 4.5 cm. Peppery pale orange FW with wavy lines and one spot on each wing that can either be orange or white. Hosts: Deciduous trees and low plants including cherry, elm and maple.

Habitat:

Woodlands and old fields.

Notes:

Mild temperature of around 50 degrees brought this moth to the front porch light. What a nice surprise and it liked my finger too. Some overwinter as adults. Nocturnal, attracted to light.
