Black Polydesmid Millipede

Polydesmida sp.?

Description:

Black millipede, approx 3-4 cms in length. Cylindrical body, brownish-coloured legs and antennae. I know this isn't the black Portuguese Millipede (Ommatoiulus moreletii), because O. moreletii has more, but much smaller, body segments than this spotting. The Portuguese Millipede was accidentally introduced into Australia where it has since become an invasive pest. On this basis, I am assuming my spotting is a native species. A handy reference - https://www.polydesmida.info/millipedeso...

Habitat:

Suburban backyard.
