Speckled eye fly

Eristalinus punctulatus

Description:

Body length 10mm. Strong and clean bands and lines in yellow and black; weird speckled eyes !

Habitat:

Resting on the underside of a eucalyptus leaf on a hot day. In public parkland.

Notes:

I've been hoping to find one of these spotty-eyed flies. Sounded much like a bee in flight. http://www.ozanimals.com/Insect/Native-D... Atlas of Living Australia... http://bie.ala.org.au/species/urn:lsid:b...
