Red Milkweed Beetle

Tetraopes tetrophthalmus

A red longhorn beetle with black dots. Spotted here on its host plant the Showy milkweed plant. Toxins in the milkweed plant give it its colors and make the beetle distasteful to predators.

Spotted at the Helen McCabe State Park.
