Description:

Two polypores: Large (Approximately 8 inches wide) attached to tree trunk and small, stalked polypore (5 inches wide and 3 to 4 inches deep) growing at base of oak tree. Caps mostly yellow with concentric orange-brown zones of varying width;colors stronger near stalk; fading to white at margin. Surface of cap semi-glossy and smooth with slightly irregular surface. Pore surface white with very small pores (not visible to the naked eye). Pores circular. (Not visible to the naked eye) Stem on small polypore approximately 2 to 3 inches long; irregular diameter, approximately 0.5 to 0.75 inches. Stem semi-glossy.

Habitat:

Growing on the trunk of, and near the base of an oak tree.

Notes:

These polypores were not as striking in color as the one sighted on the other trail http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/180... This Ganoderma sp. is distributed mainly in the Southeastern United States
