Heimioporus betula
Cap. Orange-brown with glossy, moist, sticky surface; approximately 6 cm diameter. Pore surface yellow; 1 to 2 angular pores/mm; with a narrow sterile margin. Stem. Yellow with reticulated surface and reddish tinge under the surface.; approximately 15 cm long.
Growing at base of pine tree in soil with pine leaf litter, in a pine woods.
Could be mistaken for Ornate-stalked Bolete (Retiboletus ornatipes) which fruited a little earlier in this location. Cap of Heimioporus betula is darker red-orange with glossy, moist surface compared with yellow cap of Retiboletus ornatipes. Stalk of Heimioporus betula has pink-red color under the surface yellow reticulation; no red color under yellow reticulation on stalk of Retiboletus ornatipes. Pore surface/pores similar in both species.
