Hummingbird Moth

Hemaris?

Description:

A small but quite fat bodied moth, 3-4cm long. Clear wings with black veins. Olive green body with brown and yellow bands across the tail, creamy underbelly. Big eyes.

Habitat:

Seen in urban garden

Notes:

Found him on the roof, have never seen such a critter before or since. He was just sitting on the concrete, he seemed to be a bit tired or maybe a young one. I picked him up and after a few minutes he started to vibrate his wings and then he took off.
