Spigelia marilandica

Description:

Red and yellow flower, native to the Southeast US but uncommon. A source of strychnine poison.

Habitat:

Located on the Indian Springs State Park Overland Nature Trail. This flower does not bloom often. When it does bloom, it is usually located within the first section of the trail on a downward slope. Surrounding wildflowers include Spiderwort and Beggar's Lice (Naked Tick Trefoil).
