Circus pygargus
Here a Montagu's Harrier is seen scanning the grasslands in search for its food mainly small rodents, birds and locusts. They hover mid air when hunting to detect prey species by the noises they produce and plan their dive!
Velavadar National Park has an exclusive grassland habitat. The golden grasslands extend uniformly, interspersed with dry thorny scrub. Harriers are widespread winter visitors in India and are known to roost communally. The major communal roost site in India is Velavadar National Park, Gujarat (the world’s largest Harrier roost, 3000 birds).

Well done on another nomination Vipul. You are building a brilliant portfolio.
Lovely shot Vipul
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
Wonderful !
Awesome shot!
