Bluebottle or Portuguese man o'war

Physalia physalis

Description:

The floating part of the bluebottle is a sac filled with Argon gas, the stinging tentacles underneath it can be up to 50 metres long! It’s not a true jellyfish but a siphonophore, a class of marine invertebrate. A sting from the tentacles will cause severe pain and can sometimes leave scarring.

Habitat:

Found in warmer waters worldwide and are completely dependent on the wind and current for movement.
