The female looks similar, but with a dull brown shade.

Habitat:

seen in the grounds surrounding Kanha jungle lodge Madhya Pradesh.

Always the case with a camera :( at least I got the neurothemis bit right :).
my spring bulbs are all starting to come into flower now so if it would just stop snowing and raining here I could get out spotting!

You are very welcome. I love to research odonata. There is such a variety. Managed to see a couple emerge from a pond, but no camera of course. Look forward to seeing your other finds :)

I shall look forward to seeing them :) we get lots of lovely blue dragonflies here so I will try to capture one but they are so quick unlike these that stayed still for ages. Thanks again for the great help.

Check the color of the eyes and head and leg color on your original photos if you can. Wikipedia describes these for N. fulvia.

N. terminata is common on Borneo, most of Indonesia, the Philippines and less so in Peninsular Malaysia. EOL range map http://eol.org/data_objects/21343598

Line Item 68is a list of odonata of India. It lists the Neurothemis and N. terminata is not on the list. However N. fulvia (on the list) is and it is a good match including the red edge on the tip of the wing. The paper is a pdf format and has the credentials of who did the survey.

Thanks Carol and Gatorfellows, I think it was actually red as in the second shot but the bright Indian sunshine was just shining on it making it look more of a deep orange! I love its big eyes most :)

My old account followed you. So I am now a follower. It's fun here! This is so gorgeous. I never saw an orange one here in Pennsylvania.
