Plantain Squirrel

Callosciurus notatus

Description:

Medium sized squirrel about 20cm long and the same again for the tail but can be larger. Grey brown on dorsal surface but a foxy red belly and distinct black stripe along the flanks with white pinstripe above that.

Habitat:

Common throughout Singapore in parks and gardens as well as forests and even mangroves. This one seen in Singapore Botanic Gardens in the central city.

Notes:

A lovely squirrel to look at. Its Latin name for the genus, Callosciurus means "beautiful squirrels".
