Brown-headed cowbird (male)

Molothrus ater

Description:

This is the male brown-headed cowbird. A rather common small blackbird. He is black with a brown head. Size about 7 1/2 inch. These birds never build there own nest. Interesting fact is that cowbirds are known to have laid eggs in nests of over 200 species of birds. I have actually seen a small warbler feeding a baby cowbird that was twice its size. Shocking to see but sure was interesting.

Habitat:

There was a large flock of these brown-headed cowbirds around the campground at Frenchman's Wilderness campground in Butte LaRose, Louisiana.
