Solanum chenopodioides
Solanum chenopodioides, commonly known as the "whitetip nightshade" or "velvety nightshade", is a shrub of the family Solanaceae, native to South America that has become naturalised in Australia and New Zealand. (Wikipedia) It's an Argentinian nightshade in the Solanum nigrum complex that has been exported to other wet temperate locales since European colonisation. Reaching Australia in the 20th c as an agricultural contaminant, it should not be confused with the potato bush S. chenopodinum, a Mueller-named Australian native. (Weeds of Melbourne) https://weedsofmelbourne.org/whitetip-ni... Small clusters of berry-sized fruit are visible in the 4th photo.
Spotted by a derelict cottage, along a fire trail near the Mt. Norman day use area in Girraween National Park. Dry sclerophyll forest with sandy granite soils, substantial undergrowth and accumulated leaf litter, and foliage much greener and lush since the drought has broken. Area still damp due to recent rains. Bushfires ravaged this area in February 2019. Here's some park info - http://www.rymich.com/girraween/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girraween_...
A recent spotting I made that looks almost identical to this one. Also Solanum sp., but notice the spikes on the buds and stems. I'm still unable to find an exact ID this spotting.... https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/21...
