Xestia c-nigrum
This specimen has a shiny purplish color to the forwings with a distinctive patterning towards the base; a black mark resembling the Hebrew letter nun (נ) with a pale cream-coloured area adjacent to this mark. The hindwings are cream-coloured. Family Noctuidae.
Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, semi-urban area on the outskirts of San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.
The larva of this moth feeds on everything but the kitchen sink!
Thank you so much Harsha! What a name it has. It must be a terrible pest since it feeds on absolutely everything. Global warming won't bother this guy.
