Common Mantid Family

Polyspilota Aeruginosa

Description:

A large and formidable mantis reaching over 80mm in length. This mantis is very well known for rearing up and aggressively displaying its wings and those beautiful yellow and blue front legs. The front legs also carry a conspicuous black spot. This specimen was saved from our house cat that itself was quite intimidated from the display and the mantis was safely released.

Habitat:

Dry open savannah and fynbos. Very often attracted to lights

Thank you Stephanie R. I myself was a bit weary of this mantis. Quite an aggressive little guy.
