Fragrant Water Lily

Nymphaea odorata

Description:

Water-lily blooms open late morning and close at night. Best time to see them in full bloom is mid-day. One of the most common white water lilies. Flowers and leaves float on the water. I've seen birds jumping from one pad to another and alligators swimming around through the many lily pads.

Habitat:

These water lilies were numerous in the waters at St Marks National Wildlife Refuge. They flower June through September but I was lucky to find one early bloom.
