pingpong bats

Dictyopanus pusillus

Description:

Small pingpong bat-shaped fungi, each about 8mm wide, with sturdy eccentric stipes. The upper surfaces appeared rough. The fertile underside had large pores (pic #3) These fungi grew in series and in layers.

Habitat:

Spotted on a damp log in a dark spot - damp forest gully. Dsitribution: http://bie.ala.org.au/species/Dictyopanu...

Notes:

These fungi are said to glow in the dark ! Unfortunately, I had to dislodge one of them to photograph the underside but, there were several of these on the log. These are said to be closely related to the gilled Panellus stipticus.
