Round-lobed Hepatica

Hepatica nobilis var. obtusa

Description:

Leaves persisting through winter. Leaves are 3-lobed with rounded tips, wider than long, lobes extend to near the middle of the leaf. Leaves purplish beneath Flowers are borne singly on long hairy stalks. Flowers are approximately 0.75 inches diameter, have 5-12 sepals (no petals), numerous stamens, and ovaries. Flowers are deep purple when they open and fade to white as they age.

Habitat:

Plants found at or near the north side of the base of trees or stumps on a ridge in predominantly hardwood forest.
