Double-crested Cormorant

Phalacrocorax auritus

Description:

Large black bird with webbed feet. Short legs and tail. Yellow-orange skin on face, grayish bill with a sharp hook on the tip.

Habitat:

Sunken Meadow State Park, New York. Near the seashore. Can be found on any open water, fresh or salt.

Notes:

Large number of these birds seen flocking in a canal area not far from the beach. They were very skittish.
