Cinnabar Polypore

Pycnoporus cinnabarinus

Habitat:

Saprobic on the dead wood of hardwoods (usually with bark still adnate) and rarely on the wood of conifers; causing a white rot; annual; spring through fall, or over winter in warm climates; It is common in many areas and is widely distributed throughout the world. The trunk where I found these fungi is on the edge of a highway, in a transition region between the Atlantic Forest and Cerrado.
