Pink-striped Oakworm Moth

Anisota virginiensis

Description:

The moth gets it's name from the two rose colored stripes which run the length of the caterpillar's body. Adults have a wingspan of approximately 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches, with females being larger.

Habitat:

Found in deciduous woodlands and suburbs from eastern Canada westward to the Great Lakes and southward to the Gulf Coast and Florida. Caterpillars feed on various oak trees. Adults do not feed.

Notes:

Found on the back of the house near the kitchen window.
