Dunlin

calidris alpina

Description:

A small wading bird found along the coast line in the UK, probably one of the most common shorebirds. These ones run on the shore line which is quite amusing to see as they have little legs. They have slightly downturned bills and a black stomach in breeding season (April-July). You can see how small they are in comparison to an Avocet in photo 4.

Habitat:

seen at Rutland water nature reserve.
