Description:

Tiny male Fairy Longhorn Moth (less than 1 cm). I saw several males on this hike. This is a spotting of a female in a different part of the park: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/100...

Habitat:

Feeding on serrated onion blossom (allium serra) along Olympia Trail in Mount Diablo State Park, Clayton, CA

Notes:

Males have large eyes, long white antenna 3 times forewing length, black forewing crossed by three white lines which are reduced to two or only traces in some populations. Females have smaller eyes, smaller antenna (1.5 X FWL) and bright orange head. Forewing bright, metallic blue, hindwing purple. Butterflies and Moths of North America
