Description:

when seen up close Male Pochards have a lovely rusty red head. They often arrive in the UK from Russia to escape the winter over there. its very rare that Pochards breed in the UK though. This one was being chased by a Male tufted duck and splashing with its feet and and wings to put him off.

Habitat:

seen on the marshes at Potteric carr nature reserve, owned by the Yorkshire wildlife trust
