Broad-banded Water Snake

Nerodia fasciata confluens

Description:

They have a dark body with pale yellow-orange bands that extend onto the belly. The head is brown and triangular shaped, which is commonly thought to be indicative on venomous snakes, but this is wrong. Many non-venomous snakes have the ability to flatten out their heads to look triangular to look more threatening.

Habitat:

Found in the southeastern US near freshwater. This guy was found swimming through a swamp.
