Rhizostoma pulmo

Description:

Variable size from about 10 cm to as much as 40 cm in lnght and as much in diameter, generally white with purple areas which vary from individual to individual.

Habitat:

Usually open sea, but when there is the southeast wind hundreds of individuals are pushed onto shore as the individuals I spotted.

The barrel jellyfish is also known as the dustbin lid jellyfish because it can attain a very large size, exceptionally up to 35” in diameter!
