White-lined Sphinx Moth Caterpillar

Description:

Black larva with narrow yellow stripe down the back and a speckled pattern down the sides. The head, anal plate and horn are orange. This species is highly variable in appearance. Even on the same plant, they can vary a lot. See Notes below

Habitat:

On Deerweed in Chaparral along hiking trail. This species is found throughout the Americas as well as parts of Africa, Eurasia and the West Indies.
