A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Oxyura jamaicensis
The Ruddy Duck is a duck from North America and the Andes Mountains of South America, one of the stiff-tailed ducks. Adult males (like this spotting) have a rust-red body, a blue bill, and a white face with a black cap.
They are migratory and winter in coastal bays and unfrozen lakes and ponds. This one was observed in a pond at the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge near Hardeeville (Jasper County), SC.
