Fungi

Description:

Large, flat grey toned fungi, growing on tree trunks & ground. Colour & pattern resembled the fur of an animal & appeared silky smooth on the surface. Unsure of ID so would welcome suggestions. Larger one in second photo was approx. 18 to 20mm across & growing at ground level possibly on the rotting roots of a Paulownia tree. The smaller one in picture one was on the trunk of the same tree.

Habitat:

Found growing on dead trunk & possibly the roots of a Paulownia tree in dry woodland where these trees had previously been introduced & since died off, in north east NSW.
