Anas platyrhynchos
Female mallards are not quite non-descript. Mostly brown in color with streaks on the underparts. Back and wings feathers have contrast light to dark. The speculum feather are an isiridescent blue with white borders. Crown of the head is a darker brown with two light colored facial stripes and one darker eye stripe. Bills can range from dark to mottled orange. Ducklings can leave the nest not long after hatching and follow the parent into the water to swim.
Usually found near fresh or salt water
