Genduara punctigera
This ornate caterpillar was about 25 mm long. It was covered with long grey hairs which looked soft and flattened, pointing downwards, back and forwards. Posterior to a velvety black head was a sulphur yellow marking and following this were two thin bands of red. Laterally three narrow tufts of setae pointed forwards. The body was black and narrow with small orange tufts with a white marking on abdominal segments 5 & 8.
Spotted on Cherry Ballart/Native Cherry (Exocarpos cupressiformis) in a native reserve.
If threatened, the caterpillar is said to raise and bow its head displaying clearly, the red markings on the thorax.
