American Bittern

Botaurus lentiginosus

Description:

A small, chunky bird that blends in perfectly with cattails when it stands straight up.

Habitat:

Found in a swamp along the cattails. These guys were supposed to have left awhile back, they aren't supposed to be in Texas during the summer. But I'm glad he was because he was my lifer American Bittern!
