Polygonia faunus
Path in the forest on the trail around Roe Lake, Pacific Westcoast rainforest but in the rain shadow of Vancouver Island Mountains. Well camouflaged on the trail wood chips. Is native to North America and has a wide range.
Love the former name of this species from my old butterfly book published in 1981 - Faunus Anglewing. Pretty name!
