Armillaria -immature

Armillaria hinnulea

Description:

Clumps of fungi with rounded dark rough (scaly) immature caps. Stipes were covered with white fibres and were bulbous at the base. A fine cortina extended from cap margins to the stipe (Pic #2)

Habitat:

Spotted in a nature reserve near drainage area (semi-swamp) with mixed native trees ( eucalyptus. leptospermum & Muttonwood) -growing perhaps from buried wood. A rare species found only in Australia and New Zealand http://bie.ala.org.au/search?q=Armillari...

Notes:

A secondary pathogen parasitic on trees and shrubs only after they are weakened and infected by a primary pathogen. Cause woody woodrot.
