Tricholoma

Tricholoma eucalypticum

Description:

A fungus with a large rubbery cap about 110 mm wide. The cap was a purplish brown colour which appeared broken into scaly patches towards a paler margin. The cap margin appeared thick and slightly crenulated. Gills were a pale cream as was the thick stipe. No annulus seen.

Habitat:

Spotted in leaf litter under trees - mixed native.

Notes:

A very interesting sturdy fungus. This species ID needs confirmation. My thanks to gully.moy for advice.

Yeah, looks good but I don't really know Tricholoma well.

Seems like there's only Tricholomopsis rutilans in Australia - introduced. This species appears to have yellow gills and stipe and a cap with very small scales.
There are more matches with Tricholoma - what are your thoughts, gully.moy ?
