Delicate Cycnia Moth

Cycnia tenera

Description:

Family: Erebidae, Subfamily: Arctiinae, Tribe: Arctiini. A common satin white moth with orange/yellow border especially closer to the head. Orange abdomen with black spots. Under side of forewings has a dusting of black. TL: 16-22 mm. WS: 30-40 mm. Feeds on Dogbane, Indian Hemp and Milkweed.

Habitat:

Woodlands, gardens and fields. Attracted to light.

Notes:

Chemicals on this moth repel bats from eating them. Also known as Dogbane Tiger Moth. Range is throughout continental USA and Canada. The lighting was bad and the photos came out a little blue. I haven't been able to figure out how to correct this.
