Ascocoryne sarcoides sl, incl. cylichnium
The fruitbody of Ascocoryne sarcoides sl, incl. cylichnium is gelatinous with various shades of pinkish purple. It is spherical at first, either sessile or with a very short stem, later becoming centrally depressed and then irregularly cushion shaped, forming brain-like compound groups. Individual fruitbodies can grow 0.5 to 1.5 cm across, while clusters often get 5 to 10 cm across. This jelly-like fungus goes through both asexual and sexual spore-producing stages.
Ascocoryne sarcoides sl, incl. cylichnium is saprobic on rotting trunks and stumps of broadleaf trees, particularly beech.
Spotted near Hoenderloo, Veluwe, Holland. (sources: see reference)

Tree sp is an interesting thought.
Thanks for your comment, Mark. Yeah I have seldom seen them this purple my self, at least not in this stage. Do you think the species of trees they grow on is a factor for the colour difference?
Amazing colour. Our versions are more pink/red.
Thank you, Brian! It's definitely a showstopper :)
Wow! Great find! Love the color.
