Brown-headed Cowbird

Molothrus ater

Description:

The male has a brown head with an iridescent black body, sometimes appearing to have a blue tint. The female is slightly smaller than the male and uniformly gray. This bird lays their eggs in another birds nest, abandoning the eggs to the care of the host bird.

Habitat:

Observed sitting on a fence that borders a fill dirt shore along the lagoon.

Notes:

I have only spotted a few Cowbirds this spring. These two caught my eye as they sat calmly on the fence, observing the area.
